But when I try to set up the Roku stick to it, I get no setup prompt, just a blank screen. Any ideas to help me? I'll ask Roku in parallel and if I get a good answer, I'll share it here.

Rambles Distinguished Member. The video output of the Roku will need to be in a format that your AVR supports. Eg, not 4K. Thanks "Rambles" for the tips. I actually did what you suggested before I posted, but no luck. But my TV only has 3 channel output, not 5. If there are any more ideas to help my original intent successful, that'd be appreciated. Last edited: Jun 2, The TV output wouldn't be 3 channels, it would either be stereo or 5. Sorry for the delayed response.

Everything actually turned out fine once I got an able-bodied person I'm physically disabled to more securely plug the Roku stick at the back of the receiver. So doing the initial setup directly on the TV, and plugging into the receiver is a simple affair. Make sure to answer "Yes" during initial setup if you hear the test sound even when you don't on the TV.

However, they must be paired with a Roku device before they can be used. No additional pairing is required. Hold or place the remote close to your device. The Roku TV or player will detect the remote and execute pairing automatically.

When the home menu appears on your TV screen, insert the batteries into your remote, but leave the battery compartment open. After locating the pairing button for your remote, press and hold the pairing button for 3 seconds or until you see the pairing light on the remote begin to flash. If the indicator light does not flash, try again.

If the light still doesn't flash, try a different set of batteries. Wait 30 seconds while the Roku device executes the remote pairing process. You should see a message on your TV stating the pairing has been completed. You can add a new remote or add a second remote to control the same Roku TV or player. But I get no sound out of my Yamaha speakers. I made sure that ARC is enabled through the settings, and turned the TV speakers off in the audio settings, but I still get no sound. The audio detected is defaulted to "stereo" which means it probably can't detect any outside audio source.

Am I missing a step here? Do I have to buy an optical line instead? Seems kinda strange, I didn't expect to have to jump through hoops. Just to add, I also tried using the coaxial cable adapter that the TV came with.

It is just a standard audio jack that plugs into an audio port on the TV, and branches out into three coaxial cables. Those didn't work either. View products 1. It should work. I have mine connected using an Onkyo receiver.

Double-check the Yamaha user's manual to see if you're not missing a setting or something. Try a different HDMI cable. I would appreciate if Roku developers on this forum at least acknowledge the problem.

I have been volunteering at least half a year on this forum helping people to resolve the issue with ARC connection from Roku TV to Yamaha receivers. All I hear from Roku is crickets. That is an idea. That would be just wonderful. Maybe, it requires some communication with Yamaha. So, here I go again. You just do not here a sound. Short answer is Controlling the audio receiver is not a feature directly provided by the Roku Ultra remote. If that does not work, then maybe a Logitech Harmony remote might work best.

Like he said, maybe. I have no issues controlling my Yamaha AVRs that way.

However, that's about the limit of what you can do with the Roku remote. But that's it. I believe the latest version of the Ultra has a power button on the remote, so you should be able to turn the system off with it. The Roku remote just isn't designed for that. If you want a true single remote experience, then something from the Harmony line might work for you. Trending Discussions. IR remote not working? Remote replacement.Menu Menu.
