Training is offered to law enforcement related individuals on mandated, intermediate, and special investigative topics. No credit cards and no refunds but you may transfer the registration if needed. For classes that have a limit, preference for seating will be given to in-region agency registrants.

The students will be taught how to develop and use instructional media to enhance their presentations. In addition, the fundamental techniques of developing testing and evaluation procedures will be presented. Each trainee must demonstrate the basic knowledge and skills required to effectively instruct a lesson during two teaching exercises.

Prerequisites to qualify for Certification: substantial experience in teaching or in the special field or subject area to be taught, to include: two years experience as a peace officer, telecommunicator, or jailer; or a Bachelors Degree and two years of teaching experience; or a graduate degree.

The Students will be taught how to develop a plan through a crisis communications exercise. Each student must demonstrate the basic knowledge and skills required to effectively respond in the event of a real crisis.

Our Basic Peace Officer training goal is to produce graduates who can perform law enforcement work at entry level and pass the TCOLE certification exam.

Graduates of our academy are employed in more than 50 different police and fire departments in the North Texas area. TCOLE requires hours of basic peace officer instruction on specified topics. Our law enforcement academy requires and provides hours. Other courses are offered in specific areas for law enforcement officers.

TCOLE training, including both certificate courses and grant-funded training, is offered to current commissioned officers at no cost.

BRST Basic Response Survival Training is a 2-day reality based, force on force training course developed for law enforcement officers to help prepare them to better assess and safely respond to potentially dangerous situations.

Officers will go through stress inducing scenarios and use their critical thinking skills and training to respond with reasonable use of force if appropriate. Officers will be placed in real-world scenarios such as traffic stops, pedestrian contacts, family fights, alarm calls, building clearing, crimes in progress, and violent critical incidents.

The BRST course is customizable to fit agency-specific needs. This is not a one-size-fits-all course. Those funding sources have provided TMPA with the resources to provide free programs vital to law enforcement. These trainings will come to you so no travel is necessary, and all offer TCOLE credit for successful completion.

Contact us for more information or to register. The purpose of the ADAPT program is to provide University law enforcement officers with all of the tools necessary in the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse among college students.

The ADAPT program has been developed under the guidance of law enforcement officers, the Texas Department of Transportation, campus law enforcement officers and staff from TMPA to address the unique challenges that officers working on and around post-secondary campuses encounter.

These courses are taught by officers who are committed to reducing underage drinking and underage impaired driving in their communities.Criminal Justice professionals perform a valuable and essential service for society. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the graduate is awarded the associate of science degree. Classes meeting from pm to pm Monday — Friday. All prospective students should pickup a law Enforcement Academy application. Applications that are submitted after the deadline will be reviewed at the discretion of the Program Coordinator. Due to limited enrollment, we cannot accept every applicant. Applicants not admitted to the program must re-apply each year.

Successful applicants will be notified by mail of acceptance to the program. To qualify for admittance, each prospective student must meet the following criteria:. Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive 24 college credits and be qualified to sit for the state licensing exam. After passing the exam you will be certified by the State of Texas to obtain employment anywhere in the state as a Texas Peace Officer.

It covers the legal aspects of mental health commitments, liability issues, mental disorders, and mental disabilities. Key components include didactic training, with both classroom and scenario-based learning exercises. All instructors are TCOLE certified Instructors and Mental Health Officers, with vast hands-on experience in dealing with mental health related crises and de-escalation.

Parking Is free! With increasing frequency, law enforcement is being called upon to respond to individuals in serious mental health crises. It is necessary for law enforcement personnel to understand mental illness, and the tactics and techniques that have been proven to work most effectively when responding to individuals in these situations.

These tactics and techniques are different than those routinely taught to officers to manage conflict. Generally, the underlying elements behind mental illness-related behavior is usually not criminal or malicious.

Utilizing the information from this course, and implementing effective strategies can help keep the officer safe, keep the public safe, and greatly reduce civil liability. This class is also required for officers who wish to obtain either an Intermediate or Advanced certificate.

The purpose of the Mental Health Officer course is to further inform and educate the officer in the area of mental health and issues pertaining to serving as a mental health officer, to include advanced crisis intervention training. Having the Mental Health Officer certification does not equate to being a Mental Health Officer, which is a specified role within a police agency.

This course will also allow time for discussion, questions, and concerns of technique utilization that participants have experienced since their initial basic training.

This course aims to provide a framework for Law Enforcement Officers to have a basic understanding about US Military culture, traumas, triggers and stressors, and de-escalation techniques when encountering Veterans in crisis. The course is structured around 16 hours of lecture, videos, and class dialogue and 8 hours of role playing, hands-on practice to build student confidence when encountering a US Veteran in crisis.
